My two types of snake plants keep on dividing and the pots get crowded quickly. How can I get them to grow tall but not more new shoots? They are the straight type not birdnest. Thanks.
This is the tallest snake plant I have seen. As tall as an adult!
(Seach sewing pattern review and snake plant you will find it)
I am wondering if the light direction also matters since the tip of a leaf is the meristem. Break tge tip and that leaf won't grow any more. My plants have some direct sunlight in the morning, at a low angle. The tips usually get less light when thd pots are on the shelf or underneath a table. I have two moonshine snake plants of similar sizes so I am going to test the idea out over the winter.
My snake plants still aren't growing much taller months later. They are happy though, keep growing new shoots and one even flowers! The scent is intoxicating, similar to corn plant blossoms.
I think I figure it out. My fault again. The snake plant's meristems are dead, both the shoot and the leaf growing tips are no longer viable. It maybe due to inconsistent fertilization in the past, as I don't use commercial liquid plant food and the plants got starved for months in winter. So when the next boost of nutrients is available, they can only expand leaf size or initiate new shoots.
I repotted and gather all the shoots with dead center in one pot and put young shoots in new pots. I will take better care and see how they will grow then.
