Dear friends could you help with a question please. I intended to save seeds from my sweet peas I grow for the pollinators. I was waiting for the pods to dry out on the plants but they have frozen solid in a sudden cold snap when I was away. Will they still be viable if I bring them in and she'll them? Thank you  Suzy

Hi, Suzi

That is an interesting question.

I freeze seeds to preserve them for later use so I would say if the seeds were mature, freezing would possibly not hurt them.

If these were my seeds, I would pick them, bring them in to a place where the seeds can thaw out and dry them thoroughly.

I hope this works out for you.

I agree with Anne. My freezer has many seeds in it.

The viability of seeds after freezing depends heavily on the moistness of the frozen seeds. Dry seeds of non-tropical species freeze well. Moist seeds tend to get damaged.

If worried, you may do a germination test on a few seeds. That'll tell you what to expect when you plant them.

Thank you  everyone. I will bring them in to dry and then do a germination test
