Hi,

I'm Claire, my partner and I built an off grid home in rural Ontario, which we've lived in since the spring of 2020.

We're experiencing our first El Nino year here, which has been a real challenge with so many overcast days. We're still very much learning and adjusting our set up. This past summer we built a cob oven/outdoor kitchen area which has been a fantastic addition. Next fun projects hopefully include a sauna and experimenting with straw bale construction.

I'm always looking for perennial vegetable sources in Canada, which seem to be hard to find! We're also slowly working on a forest garden, mainly soil building and adding nitrogen fixers right now since we have poor soil quality and a lot of deer pressure.

Glad to finally be joining, this site is such a great resource!

I'm in Norfolk county and on grid but also have been finding this super dull weather a challenge.

We moved this fall so lots of things need to be done. An outdoor kitchen/processing area is really high on the list so I'd love to see pics of what you've done!

We got our first snow tonight and I'm getting myself ready to go out and get to work on trying some winter propagation attempts this coming week.

She said size doesn't matter, so I showed her this tiny ad:
