I was hoping for a better selection at tractor supply. They aren’t the greatest but a few I will certainly get from there. Pretty cheap bare root with a year guarantee is hard to beat. But they simply don’t have everything I want. And you also have to be careful because they will 100% stock stuff that won’t produce in this area.

Where do fellow permies  get reasonably priced trees hopefully with a guarantee. I’m central Texas in 8a.

Shameless plug for Permies Seed/Nursery Review Grid and the nurseries within!

They do not have an explicit guarantee but I have only heard good things about purchases from Twisted Tree Farm. I also like the variety of genetics offered by Trees of Antiquity.

Howdy!
You aren't that far from me - more or less.
I haunt the internet and tend to buy a few trees from here or there.

My Celeste Fig came from TSC and is doing well. The Chicago Fig was a $5 WallieWorld special where I took the gamble of "What's the worst that happens?" and it's still alive. It started much smaller than the Celeste and is going to be moved on the chance that a better place might do it better.

I've gotten mulberries from Gurney's which were planted about 15 years ago.
The roses from The Antique Rose Emporium have done well - they're worth the road trip to Brenham.

I've never had luck with anything ordered from The Arbor Day Foundation. I'm guessing here's a something missing. I'll probably try again if only because the understory trees are cheap and I can always find a spot for them. We're finally getting a variety of birds settling into the area (this used to be cattle fields, so there was a lot of open space and not much in the way of trees. I've been working hard to change that, locally.

I'm getting ready to place a bunch of orders from assorted trees from a few places. I can let you know what my experiences with those are, at some random later point. The big order of strawberries is coming from a PNW place and they're getting shipped in February. I hope it goes well because it's darn hard to find good, cheap plants and I'd love to add them to my list of Must Order places.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

Does your local soil conservation district do a yearly order?  Ours does a once a year order and takes a truck with a closed trailer to go get them so freight is typically better handled.

Musser Forests has done okay by me thru the years if ordering quantities of a given tree.  Decent selection.  Be aware these are smaller trees which take greater care but usually 1/4  or less the cost per tree of the typical garden catalog.

I like to recommend the state tree nurseries as almost every state has one.

I looked up Texas as I have not bought any trees lately.

The Central Texas Restoration & Recovery Program supports conservation and reforestation efforts by providing Central Texas landowners with seedlings that will grow well in their area. Each year, seed is collected from native trees throughout Central Texas and grown at West Texas Nursery. These native seedlings are ideal for landowners who have been affected by drought, wildfire, flooding or diseases, such as oak wilt.

Yes I looked at that one. It seemed to only have plums and the rest were just regular trees unless I just couldn’t find them

Oh sure, it's a tiny ad, but under the right circumstances, it gets bigger.
