potential workshop: wofati (residential)

The land has not yet closed. It's due to close on May 31. And yet we are excited to start planning workshops as we build. To that end, we have some questions about interest levels.

wofati - 400 square foot residential eco home.

May or may not overlap or coincide with pond, hugelkultur and berm workshops to maximize track hoe use.

IF you would be able to:

travel to the site in Montana

have the funds to pay a workshop fee

be able to take a week (or so) off work

we want to hear from you in this thread.

So, IF you fit the three criteria above, please reply and include:
(a) how many podcasts you've listened to
(b) whether you would be willing to camp in a tent.

Workshop space will be limited, so those responding here will be given priority registration once we actually close and have more details nailed down.

Most interested in a Wofati build workshop as we are discussing same for our Hamilton farm this year or first of next. I have listened to approx two dozen podcasts, if not more, and would probably plan on commuting to the land site as I suspect it is located around / just outside the greater Missoula area...? Other location afar would require more thought as to tenting / lodging and availability to partake.

Look forward to more details in the interim.

Nice to hear from you, Tim! Yes, the land is near the Missoula area. Lots of folks interested in earth works are also interested in wofati, so I think there is more interest than just those who have posted on this thread so far.

Not totally sure about this, but the first wofati might be built by those willing to volunteer during the wonky first month or so. After we've done one, we should have a better idea of how to plan and structure a workshop that charges a fee.

Chime in on the first month thread (4th page!) if you think you might like to join in for possible less-structured wofati building, or send me a pm.

Any leads on black locust posts and beams?

Yes. Very interested. I have a 7 acre site in Colorado and I would love to do some underground shelter building there. I am very interested in the possibility of doing a workshop. I teach so summer months workshops would be better for me. But I think I could make it work anytime of the year.

Ps: Tent yes. Willing to travel to Montana yes. I even have a trailer and a bunch of tools if you'd like me to bring them along to assist.

Ps: i listen to about one podcast per night to catch up. I'm thinking that about 60 or 70 right now.

I imagine you have listened to a few! Plus you're in some andyou have interviewed Paul on a radio station before, too--correct?

Awesome. The wofati workshop would most likely be in the summer time due to Paul's desire to have the soil be as dry as possible. That's part of the reason we're gauging interest now, before the land has even closed, because this summer is fast approaching!
