Quick question to throw out to all you rockety folks....we are getting ready to build our first RMS and are having trouble sourcing used stove pipe. The price they want for new pipe practically makes me puke so I'm searching for options. The first question we have is does anyone have knowledge or experience on using galvanized duct pipe? I realize there are dangers associated with galvanized material and heat, but not sure exactly as to the threshold....are the temps present in the exhaust too high for galvanized material? Maybe the first part could be steel and later down the line galvy? Any help or advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks to all...too a better world.

Travis and Gretchen : This time let me welcome you two both as new members here at Permies 'Rocket Stove / Rocket Mass Heaters' and as future Rocketeers !

I answered your Galvanized stove pipe questions in the other Thread you posted to, please read the Whole thread ! Some of the places you can score used stove pipe
are, Freecycle.com , Crags list, The habitat for humanity RE-Stores* as well as posting in and reading 'Penney Savers ' and other free want adds ! Talk to several
heating contractors who will probably have to pay to throw away material left over from an up-grade ! You can always state your willingness to finish getting other pieces
from a helpful businessman ! ( The lighter the cheaper )

Consider letting everyone here and at other Permaculture groups in your area know that you are in the area- you may find a near neighbor with R.M.H., or Cobber's
experience ! The Tri-fecta would be a group with willing members what wants to 'do' a rocket stove build but can't come up with a site, You host, they do the work and
find the instructor for a workshop! At the end of the workshop - you have the rocket stove !#

Local volunteer fire dept. members know who that Boarded-up house with fire damage belongs to. The ones with large demolition trailers parked next to them are being
rebuilt, and they will probably be trashing out the old furnace and pipes due to the basement getting flooded during the fire fighting operation ! *

* there may be local regulations about selling used stove pipe, for re-use, Tell them it is going to be an art project created outdoors! True! art is in the eye of the beholder,
tell them it will be used as a sacrificial form in the interior of your 'Art' project ! True ! Tell them you are trying to re-create Ancient palio-Amerin skills, True !

Failing to get ALL the pipe you want is not the end of the world, in any case as we have already stated your stove pipe should be considered to be sacrificial throw away
form around which you will pack your Cob, ALWAYS go with the cheapest pipe, even including light weight blued steel cold air return pipe !

# If you go to the Permies Rocket Stoves forum threads list and scroll down to ''two more great working rocket mass heaters - - - and click on it, the first one is a member
of a sustainable living group that got HER rocket mass heater built for her at a 'weekend' workshop !

For the Good of the Craft ! Be safe, keep warm ! As always, your comments and questions are solicited and are Welcome ! PYRO - Magical Big AL !
