I know, I know, some people swear by planting using an Almanac, while others just swear up a streak at the idea.  Well I planted half of each bed or row when the ground was ready or I had the time, the other half was planted by the sign of the Moon.  I guess it was respect for the way of my ancestors, maybe respect for the old ways?
I kept careful records of all the plantings, dates of harvest and pounds or numbers of the produce.  And I have to say that for all the years it came out about even.
If there was a difference it was very slight for one or the other.

What about you, plant when you can/ground is ready?  Or by the Moon only?

Peace

I plant by moon phase. I am not a believer, and my people did not traditionally do this, although to be fair we haven't farmed for some generations (and when we did, we were known for losing farms).
I am a total skeptic of, well, almost everything, and thought it was a load of hooey. But a few years ago I tested planting a few different things and found that of 50 beans planted on a "do not plant" day, only 2 came up, and then 50 radishes planted on an "ideal root" day, all came up, and I changed my tune. I don't worry so much about details, but since then I do not plant on do not plant days, ever.

I think I will be a middle of the road type person regarding planting only by the signs, from my observations and record keeping it doesn't seem to make much difference.  But it also doesn't appear to hurt, so why not!  If one believes, then go for it.

My only question about growing things by the place of the moon at any given time, in the wild when a plant drops its seed, does the plant check the almanac first?
It seems that our plant helpers can survive and grow/expand on their own.

Again it is all in what one believes,

Peace
