My husband and i made some fantastic Peach vinegar a few years ago. when we decanted it, we jarred up the quite sizeable amount of mother. and we forgot about it. We just opened it today. It smells like sour milk. Out of curiosity, is it still usable? no mold or anything. I mean, we don't actually need it (we have other mother to use) but I was kind of wondering.

Welcome to the forum!

Was the mother still submerged in the vinegar?

I would feel like it would smell like vinegar so maybe someone with more experience will chime in.

When in doubt, throw it out.
