Don't forget to look at the sky tonight - won't happen again until 2287 and no one alive has seen this happen and no one alive will get a second chance. It should look like 2 full moons as Mars will be closer to earth than ever.

ooooh, this one unfortunately is hoax. If Mars were as close as the moon, we'd be in serious gravitational spin -out.
see: http://www.universetoday.com/104362/the-cyber-myth-that-just-wont-die-see-mars-as-large-as-a-full-moon/

However, the real show for those that get up early in on Wed 8/28 before dawn can be previewed here! http://earthsky.org/tonight

Certain rubbish. There was a great YT video explaining the impossibilities of this occurring but sadly it's tough to find. Anything with the related search terms end up with all kinds of conspiracy, alien, moon hoax, 9/11, chem trail nuttiness. Just in case you do try to search for it using google, notice all the dates where this "phenomena" has been claimed. 2003, 2010, 2012. You would think somebody on earth would have noticed it one of those times. I certainly would have.

The distances between the two planets are always changing and according to NASA the next close up will be in 2016. The distance between Earth and Mars will be 55 MILLION MILES. Not even remotely close enough to make it even a fraction of the size of the moon in the night sky. At best Mars will slowly get a tiny bit brighter and some amateur astronomers will be able to see some of the major land features of the planet, though well powered telescopes.

IF Mars was a tiny dot in the sky two days ago, and it'll be as big as the moon tonight, we're screwed. Anything that can cover that distance at that rate, being that size, would wipe us out in a microsecond.
