I've tried multiple ereaders and keep getting the same error.

I paid for the epub file and then went to the download page to get the file. I work in IT, so I'm pretty familiar with this kind of stuff.

This is the error I keep getting. Does anyone know what else I can to or who I can contact for help?

They will probably ask which ereaders you tried.  Brand or type or?  I don't know ereaders, it's just one of the questions that helps them gather the data they need to find, fix, and prevent the problem from coming back.

Any information like this will help.

I borrowed a tablet and put "epub reader for all books" app on it.  Downloaded the book and it opened without any errors.

So either the file you have is corrupted, or there is something about the ereader that is conflicting with the file type.

I don't know how to fix the second one (someone will be along later who is good with that sort of thing).

But corrupted files are something I know too well. It isn't so bad now we have high speed internet but wifi or interrupted connections like during a windstorm can mess things up.  Solution to try is to delete the old file, make sure connection is consistent, redownload it.

I suspect you know that already, but I thought to write it here in case someone else ever has this issue.  But it is something to try while we wait for the calvary on the tiny chance this fixes things.

The "(1)" makes me wonder - have you tried downloading a couple times?

How is your internet connection?  My stuff only does that with a partial or interupted download.

I was able to open it on Calibre 7.6.0+ds-1build1 on my Mint Linux laptop.

I was trying to read it on the default document reader in my Mint Linux install. It would open the file and show the chaperts, but as soon as I tried to click on a chapter it closed.

It does work with Calibre, but not on my Android phone. I'm really hoping I can figure out how to make it readable on my phone so I can read it on the go.

Interesting.  We have now checked with half a dozen people across various devices/systems/apps, and it is working as expected.  So I wonder what is different for you.

Have you tried deleting the file and redownloading from a fast and reliable internet connection?

You might be able to use Calbre to export it and see if your phone can read that file. I'll try this, as my setup is similar (Mint laptop and Android phone).

[update] I tried this. Calibre 8.2 doesn't have an export function per se, but I did save a copy. Prose Reader on my Android phone seems to handle it fine, both as the original download and the saved copy.
