So is this book actually out? Still in pre-order phase? The email seemed to indicate that it’s available, but I don’t see it when I click the link in my confirmation email.

The email I got said:

the printer says the books will be printed and sitting at their place (on the east coast) sometime around September 9.   They will then ship them, on pallets, to us - and shipping should take about a week.  So the signing party could be happening as early as September 21!

(keeping in mind, I'm not directly connected with this so the following is more a guess based on my own experience)  I suspect, they will start shipping the Kickstarter rewards in the last week of Sept/first week of Oct.  That will probably take a few weeks to send all those books.   I suspect the pre-orders will start going out mid to late Oct.

BUT.... if my experience is anything to go by, there are still lots of opportunities for delays.  Printers.  Shipping.  Weather.  My own book had trouble getting the materials to print it due to shipping strikes, then extreme weather cutting us off from the mainland, then port authority strikes, top-secret government things,... Looking back at it all, it's amazing we managed to get it done the same year as we said we would.  I'm really impressed by how well Paul and Shawn are doing with their timing.

The book is now attached to the thread.   It is open for sale to everybody.

I am in the middle of getting this sent out to all the kickstarter peeps.

If you are able to download it and view it without any problems, please say so!

If you have any issues, please post to this thread and we will ... hopefully ... collectively ...  get it all sorted out (there are a lot of interesting devices out there that I have no experience with, so I am hoping that people that are familiar with those can help those that might be stuck).

This thread should be just about the technical stuff for the ebook.   For talking about (or reviewing) the content of the book please go here:

I have an iPhone 7. When I press “download this attachment”, there is a brief (1second) indication of some activity (blue line at the top of the screen) then nothing. It wasn’t long enough for the download and no error message popped up.

Paul, got my copy of the epub book and was able to convert it into Kindle format easily with Calibre on my Mac. So now I go to curl up with it on my iPad! Excited!

All good here on the eBook. I'm using Arch Linux and several open-source readers. Everything looks fine!

Lynn,

I'm not an iphone person, so I've been trying to find an iphone person to help you.

.... unless ... by any chance ...  is it working okay now?

Lynn, check how many Safari tabs you have open and close a bunch as they could be taking up too much memory.  You can also kill the Safari app and try again, this usually will free up some ram.  Lastly, it all else fails, try a different browser like Brave or iCab.

Thank you Paul.
I live off grid with no WiFi, so was hesitant to use my computer. But I just tried it on that and it worked! Can’t wait to read it.  Thanks for all that you do. Permies rocks!

The ebook can be bought for immediate delivery for $8? What was the cheapest tier that included the ebook as part of the Kickstarter?

Lynn,

My iPhone did the same thing. I clicked the blue thing when it was finished (super fast) and it showed it had already worked (thrice, actually since I thought it wasn’t working and overclicked). I clicked on the book name and it took me to iBooks where it was waiting...
Hope that helps!

I am currently using the Brave Browser and Windows 10 on my laptop, and I was able to download the .epub eBook file for the Building a Better World Book. I had recieved an email from permies@permies.com that was titled kickstarter access info for "Building a Better World in Your Backyard - instead of being angry at bad guys eBook", and I recieved this email through the email address that I use to access Kickstarter.

My download of the book worked fine, and when I opened the book with the IceCream EBook Reader, I was able to read the book fine and access the links in the sidebar for navigating the book's Parts, Chapters, and Sections.

I downloaded this on my computer - had some issues from dodgy rural internet, but tried a few times and got it to work. It looks great so far.

When it had issues downloading, it just stopped without any error message, and only downloaded in full when I moved the computer to a spot with better 3g reception. Maybe the iPhone issues above are for a similar reason?

Downloaded on Huawei Android pad.
It failed to open on Readera (unable to open document. Decoding error.)
It did open in Lithium... All is okay there, the front cover is shown in a nice red colour.

Just joking - it is green as it should be :-)

If anyone is looking for An APP, there is a free one for windows.

freda epub ebook reader

It seems to be working great.  You can change fonts and background.  The line drawings  show up but some are not as detailed, but you can right click on them and bring up a  small window that shows everything very clearly. You may have to scroll up/down/side to side to see it all, but this is still helpful as other programs do not offer this.
I tried the epub3  reader and did NOT like it at all. You can not really customize anything and you have to scroll down to read all of  page after you click to the next page.   Just not a good setup.
Hope this helps if you're looking for a way to read the book.
I also opened it in my Nook app and this did fine as well.

I found it, Paul.
Apparently it downloaded into the Pages app of my iPad. So it works. I’ve moved it to Books app and now I can read it as a pdf. Yoohoo!
Back to the book...

Many, many, many emails were sent.

BUT!  You can go to the top of this page and click on "my stuff" and then click on "gifts I manage" and you should be all set!

@Tally Little

Sometimes when you hold down the Control (Ctrl) and + (plus) keys the view will enlarge.  Or Ctrl and - (minus/hyphen) key will shrink the view.  Sometimes features are present but don't appear unless the size of the page or view is changed.

Or if not already done, you might also try reloading the page.

If neither of these efforts appears to work, perhaps someone else will comment with suggestions.
