It appears to be downloaded onto my computer but it will not open.  It says it opens with EPUB reader.  Have no idea what that is or what to do now. I have a free reader by Doxillon. and Adobe Acrobat.  I know, I'm electronically challenged and  don't understand these things. Can someone explain what I must do in simple terms? Thank you

I have an iPhone 7. When I press “download this attachment”, there is a brief (1second) indication of some activity (blue line at the top of the screen) then nothing. It wasn’t long enough for the download and no error message popped up.

I downloaded on iPhone 11, it goes directly into “files” then to “downloads”.  Not sure the iPhone 7 has your files?  If you use iCloud the newer phones have files that you put in iCloud from your computer so they all link.

This *.epub will not open.  I absolutely HATE epubs.  Why don't you send it out with a choice for pdf?

Do you have an epub reader?

When we were doing layout, we had a huge number of people insist that people that read eBooks NEED epub.  That PDF as an ebook is awful and causes suffering.

An app that makes it so you can read epub books.

Thanks for the free book. However, it seems to only be available as an epub file, and I use a Kindle. Is it available in a Kindle supported format too?

Right thanks. Not to seem churlish, but it's not free on Amazon.

Understood, thanks. Do you, or does anyone else here, know if there is a program that can translate the epub edition into something that can be read on a Kindle?

Okay, I found what may be a way to resolve this. This may help other Kindle users - go to https://calibre-ebook.com/download where there is a free download to a program that will translate an epub into other formats. I've just done it, and I now have the book loaded on my Kindle.
Thanks again for the book - I look forward to reading it!

I suddenly had the urge to re-read the first seven pages of Building a Better World, but my physical copy was unavailable, so i redeemed a digital copy of the book. However, i've encountered some technical difficulties opening and reading my copy. I'm concerned that there may be an encoding error in the current version, although it could just be me.

I was able to find the download link and download the file with no trouble. I started out on my phone, running Android 11, and i got an error message "decoding error" using the default whatever program that is on my phone. when using the file system. (See screenshot, black background.) So i downloaded an app ReadEra, which was able to load other epub documents on my phone, but gave me the same decoding error for this book.

Then i went to my computer, where i am running Windows 10 Home (siiiigh) and i tried Chrome, fail, Adobe Acrobat, (see error message attached) and finally got a coding-style text editor, and was finally able to read it source-code-style.
I'm sorry to say i have no experience with ePub, so i don't see the error with just my eyeballs in the code.

There's still a chance that it's just me- if you're reading this message, already own a digital copy, and if you have time, can you go and try and re-download it and see if you can open the ePub just fine, and if so, let me know what app you are using to read it?

Thank you!

You need to get an epub reader.

I am running linux ...  and I just tried two different epub readers and it loaded up quickly.

Try to grab an epub reader and see if it gets better.

Try an epub reader and see if it works.

I got "Epub Reader" at the android store and it worked!

The previous reader I had the error message from was ReadEra also at the android store, and it still doesn't work. Maybe it's very picky.

Thank you!

Lyda Eagle wrote:If anyone is looking for An APP, there is a free one for windows.

freda epub ebook reader

It seems to be working great.  You can change fonts and background.  The line drawings  show up but some are not as detailed, but you can right click on them and bring up a  small window that shows everything very clearly. You may have to scroll up/down/side to side to see it all, but this is still helpful as other programs do not offer this.
I tried the epub3  reader and did NOT like it at all. You can not really customize anything and you have to scroll down to read all of  page after you click to the next page.   Just not a good setup.
Hope this helps if you're looking for a way to read the book.
I also opened it in my Nook app and this did fine as well.

Thanks for posting this idea!! I downloaded Freda and am able to read the book!!! So nice. I tried to figure this out a while ago and gave up in frustration but seeing this idea on this thread was just the push I needed!! I have been frustrated about this and other epub books not being readable on my new a year ago or so computer!!!

Thank you, staff, I found "Building a Better World in Your Backyard - Instead of being angry at bad guys - eBook" in my section under "My Stuff."

I write to the other person to check your "My Stuff" to see if it is there.

Sometimes, not understanding how things work creates additional problems.
Maybe, an additional comment about "Checki My Stuff in the Profile section after clicking the link on the next day" would help.

The problem is solved.  Liz, thank you for your suggestions.

Thanks for the freebie. I appreciate it even though I had to wait a looong time to get it. 😁 😄 Like others, I don't have an epub reader, but I was able to get it changed to a format I can access (see below).

I went to that and it wanted me to download a program, so I did a search and found two sites that worked without having to install them.

freepdfconverter seems to do a good job, but the first three pages are wonky.

ebook-online converter did a really good job.
