Ruth,

Your kickstarter email address appears to be different from your permies.com email address.  If you check your "other" email, I think you will find loads of emails from us sending you all kinds of goodies.

Ruth,

Click on "my profile", select "email preferences" and then add the other email address to "Add secondary email".  Once done, click on "my stuff" at the top - you should have heaps of stuff!

Jeff,

I figured out that you are a kickstarter supporter.   Thanks for supporting our kicktarter!

If you pop over to the kickstarter support forum, you will probably find your answer.  Or, you can post there for help:  https://permies.com/f/370/bwb-kickstarter

I'm a little late in responding; I started reading and forgot.  Obviously, book received.  My name wasn't in the back of the book, and I did send in the reply, but boo-hoo-I'm-over-it, getting the book is enough.  Thank you for your hard work.  I am learning--and humbled--by each page.

Susan,

To get your name listed at the back of the book, you had to support the kickstarter at $100 or more to get:

Your Most Creative Name in the Book (80 character limit)

OK. cool.  I  thought that at first, but when I received forms 2 separate time to fill out,  I thought it was included.  None of this is important, though.  Thank you for your commitment to our world, your leadership, and your hard work.

I just got the following email:

I am having major difficulties trying to access the Build a Better World ebook that I purchased. I have gone to the download link it downloads to my phone however when I try to open it I get an error message saying cannot open. I have tried it on my Android phone as well as my tablet. What program or app do I need to read my ebook? I have tried to access different threads to ask the question and cannot. I have sent a text message and got the answer to go on a thread and ask the question. What do I do?

My impression is that most people download the ebook and it just works.  I'm not much of an ebook expert, I've only read a few.   But for this book, I did pull it up on my phone and on my laptop.  On each I had to get an app for reading ebooks.  But my impression is that people that are into ebooks kinda have this app already.

So this thread already has a bunch of people talking about some bits and bobs about getting this to work.  Some of that might be all the info you need.  If not, then I think the thing to do is to pick the one thing you want to read it on and we will start figuring it out from there.  We would need to know more details about the device.

I have read kindle.  Did not realize until I scanned responses (amazing how that works) that there were apps for reading ebooks.  Downloaded one and not only can I read the book, but a lot of other things are easier to read too.  Excited to get started.  Sorry for not reading responses first.  :p

Hey, I'm having trouble too. I'm using an Android phone.
At the top of the first post I see a photo, then:
==========
see the download link a few inches lower
==========
Then there are big friendly upgrade options. Below those, I see in tiny font:

Filename: building-a-better-world.epub
Description
File size: 17583 Kbytes
Download attachment

When I click download attachment, I get a .bin file, not an .epub.

I don't see a friendly "Download Here!" button at all.

I see big blue text that says "click here to download"

Do you not see that?

A bin file?  That is news to me.

Maybe it's the little graphic floppy disc thingy.

I seem to be missing the "download here" button.

I tried to attach screenshots, maybe that will help.

Okay, you are using the mobile view.

What happens if you click on "download attachment"?

I just went and tried to download it. Looks like it comes as a zip filed that I can then extract into various file types. No idea which file type is the best. It's suggesting .docx. I clicked that, and it has stalled about 10% through the converting. I'm converting with the Doxillion from NCH software, which is what my computer came with, I think?

Maybe it's my browser. I use DuckDuckGo nowadays but occasionally it has weird issues. When I clicked that download button, I got that .bin file.

I tried Chrome and there are graphic arrows (see screenshot), and the download button gave me the .epub! Buuuuuuut, that file won't open either.

I'll try a few things here and report back.

It should definitely not be a zip file.  I am now worried that you have some sort of virus on your browser where you think you are downloading something you want, but really you are downloading something wicked.

Maybe it's because I don't have an epub reader? Maybe it's trying to convert it, rather unzip it? I think the program does both things...

Ah, yes, upon further investigation, it's asking me to convert it. The the file name is the same as the one listed in the thread.

That is an epub reader, ReadEra. My other ereader doesn't do epubs. I'll try another one.

Thanks for the recommendation, Lyda. This opens the file!

Hello,
I purchased the ebook and have not been able to view it. When I click on the link that was sent to me, I just get to a page asking me to buy the book again, but I did check and see that the money has already come out of my account.
Thank you,
Anita

Anita,

It looks like you downloaded the book 100.00% yesterday.

Perhaps the thing keeping you from viewing it is that you do not yet have an epub reader?

It sounds like you have the file, but the problem is that your computer doesn't know what to do with an epub file.  Maybe install an epub reader?

I finally gained access on my iPhone after downloading the Books app. It took me time to figure it out. Finally found this thread.

So I have the gift codes that I would like to gift. But this process was complicated for me, and I’m not confident they will be able to access it without some guidance.

Are there visuals or step-by-step instructions that I can send?

Thanks!

Hopfully this helps--I found a tutorial on how to How to access Digital Market Goodies and Gift Codes, and I copied out the relevant bits:

Finding your My Stuff

You can follow this link to go to My Stuff, or you can find a link to your My Stuff in the forum menu.

In desktop, the link to My Stuff is at the top

On Mobile Devices, this menu is at the bottom:

To get to your gift codes, click the "DM Threads--Gifts I Manage." Once there, you'll see the option to "Show Gift" (which makes it easy to send it to someone), or copy the gift code and claim it for yourself.

You can also just copy the gift code and send it to someone else.

And, don't worry, if you accidentally click the wrong button, you'll be sent to another screen where you have to chose between accepting it for yourself, or giving it to someone else.  So, it's easy to back out if you click the wrong button.

Where is the thread located that explains how to troubleshoot the ebook? I have not had much luck in accessing my ebook. I was able to pull it up once on my iPhone but now it has disappeared again and the link says the code was already used! I'm sad. I really wanted to read and share this book with others but so far for me it is just frustrating me that I can't access it. :(
