Michael Pilarski held this lecture at his Missoula Spring 2013 PDC. The movement is big in Russia right now... basically a back to the land/independent ethic. I like it!
and throughout Europe, it would seem. I encountered the first novel while staying with an aspiring homesteader in central Norway. he was very inspired by the book. I couldn't get into it but maybe I should give it another go; he was eager that I read it and gave me a copy. whatever does the trick for folks...!
a change of heart or of values without a practice is only another pointless luxury of a passively consumptive way of life.

I could not get into it either..... BUT: If something so moves so many people to start living more sustainable and healthy lives then I'm all for it.
I read the first book all the way through and I must say that I found it pretty painful. I started the next one and just gave up. Still glad that it seems to be having such a positive effect though.
I have a dire sense with this movment . Simply because this author claims it is fact . If people take it in spirit and use the inspiration to move into sustainable lifestyles - Great ! If they associate the lifestyle with this mans tale too literally and their gullability crumbles then so goes the lifestyle . I think alot of us got into earth based lifestyles through fiction . With me "My side of the Mountain " and the "Lord of the Rings " . Can not discount the reaching back to the Ancient Earth Spirits in music like Led Zepplin and Van Morrison etc. Sustainability can not be a cult or passing fad to be successful . But taking into account this authors trade I say whatever floats their boat .

I heard about the Anastasia movement while in Eastern Europe and had a long talk with their leader in Estonia when I was there last. The impression that I got was very good. They do not seem cultish at all and the movement seems to be very positive. I bought the first two books but I have been very busy lately and have not had the time to read them yet.
