Wondering how many of you out there have read any of Helen and Scott Nearing's books, especially Living the Good Life.
Some accounts credit them with having started the "back to the land" movement in the 1960s.
And comments if you have read any of their books.

Read the Good Life around 20 years ago.  As I recall they were pioneers in the woofing/intern organic farm model.  Also remember them saying the best compost came from composted branches.

Yes, it is one of the classics. I first read it in the 70s.

A few other of their books, that make for good remedial homestead reading are:

The Maple Sugar Book.
Wise Words on The Good Life.
Our Sun Heated Greenhouse.

These books are all filled with practical homesteading knowledge, that can be applied with minimal technology (they never had electrical power, nor heavy equipment at either of their homesteads).
They're also filled with quotes and excerpts from the writings of historical and contemporary philosophers and visionaries.

Research indicates that the Nearings have authored approximately 50 books.

I finally read it last year after running across it at our library.
While being part of the 'back to the land' movement unknowingly at the time, I was not aware of that particular book until years later my daughter in law said that we must have all read the same book

I was aware of  'one straw revolution' and '40 years of agriculture' back then though and of course Rodale.
