The world equestrian festival - which I believe is being held in Aachen next year - always has equine milk and milk products to sample. Never tried them myself. I have had to milk a horse a time or two in my life and there wasn't much to it once they decide you're an O.K. sort.

I've milked a mare (just to make sure her teats were open, after she foaled the first time), and it wasn't much more difficult than milking goats. I was surprised at how well she stood still while I did it.

My daughter REALLY wants a donkey, and in our climate, donkeys are probably our best bet for a small homestead work animal (high-elevation semi-desert). I'm keeping an eye on Craigslist for one, preferably standard-sized. If the opportunity arises, I will milk it.

Lots of videos here. Sounds like the cheese is pretty expensive!
