This is something that I desinged to be a lot like the bee hut:

Only maybe a little wider and longer. I thought it could have a variety of hammocks in it and the like. The primary function would be that it could be moved to a beautiful place and then be a spot for lounging and enjoying the beauty.

And once in a while it can be relocated.

Anybody wanna take a stab at sketchup and this? I would like to see a lot of roundwood.

Plus, since it is destined for the lab, it will need to have a shake roof.

Figure out the hammocks you want and the minimum "tree" distance and put your poles on that spacing. Set it up so the roof catches the prevailing breeze and amplifies it if it is weak.

Sounds like a winner to me. I may have to do the same, as I do not have trees where I want a hammock.

Could be a tent platform for people at workshops, too. and a shade structure for animals.

There were some amazingly good tips in the organic mattress thread about hammocks. Sources, what type of materials to use, etc.

I recall seeing once, that someone had planted eight apple trees in a circle and as they grew, trained the branches to connect and form a shady roof. In the end it created a sort of gazebo type structure which could be used for a variety of purposes. I suppose hammocks could even be strung up between the trees, or frames for the hammocks could be constructed so they could easily be moved.
It does require pruning, which I understand you avoid, and it would be permanent-ish. But that's the first thing that popped into my head when I read your post.

Hi Jenna, Welcome to the forums! Great to see that you started posting hear!
One of the things that sailors used to do when they would land on a beach is the would lash their oars together (which were rather long) into a tripod and then they would string their hammocks up between the oars. I have done this my self! With three 20ft poles 4inches in diameter. It is the easiest way to put up multiple hammocks for sleeping in. If you increased the Structure to four poles it could hold four hammocks and it would be a square which would nicely accommodate a tarp. If you had all of the poles cut all ready you could easily set this up in less then 30 minutes!
