We have had mixed luck so far. Some people have listened to all of the podcasts and came and threw their shoulder in for two weeks and really helped our forward velocity. And there were some people that were less than honest about a lot of things, got here, drained our resources and seemed to work hard to impede our forward velocity. And for any one of either of those, there were ten people that consumed hours of our time talking about dates, schedules, etc. that ended up never coming here at all.

And there have some people that have arrived with impressive skills in construction (by Tim's standards) or impressive skills in dishwashing (by Jocelyn's standards) and we have put some effort in inviting them back. Sometimes offering free or discounted workshops.

We've had people arrive and need a ride from the airport, somebody drives to get them and their flight is canceled, so somebody drives out again .... sometimes after midnight. Or they want to talk about ALL the possible options on where to stay and what it is like.

Naturally, everybody wants a tour and wants to visit and wants an opportunity to play with stuff. The cool thing is that people that have already been here already know the ropes.

So, we are now going to try to track everybody.

And for each person that has never been here before, we are going to push them through the gapper stuff. $100 per person to talk to them about coming out. Family of four is $400. Then a PA will talk about all the different things that can go on and make arrangements to get them at the airport, make sure they have a bunk, or spot for a tent or info on places to say nearby, arrange a tour, get them lined up with stuff they might want to experience ... etc. And if they pay $100 and nothing further comes of it, that's fine. And if they pay $100 and stay for 20 years, that works too.

To be super clear, the $100 fee is not just for being a gapper.

It's for a tour, OR for a visit, OR well, for most any other circumstances not already involving a workshop fee.

The gapper thread just explains how to pay it and a few other things about how/what we do here.

We just had another inquiry about touring wheaton labs, so I'm bumping this thread. Inquiries go to workshop AT richsoil DOT com.
