Lately I've been thinking a lot about what really matters — peace, nature, and a slower pace. Less being more mentality. I imagine having a small piece of land with trees, by water such as a creek or larger body of water, a cozy tiny home or modified shipping container and a garden to tend — and of course a dog. Having someone likeminded to share the experience with would be an added bonus!
I'm curious if there are any men or even women for that matter in my age group (57) who think the same way — not necessarily ready to do it right now, but have put plans in motion, continue to solidify the plan and consistently dreaming ahead for a simpler more grounded future.
I would love to hear what ya's all have to say. BTW...I am in SW Ontario hoping to purchase the land I dream of very soon in the Maritimes. But open to a change of mind certainly based on feedback.
Oh, we are here. I think most of us are quietly executing our own versions of 'the plan'. I am a year older than you. Never married no kids. Building a plan for how the rest of my time may be used productivly. (Dogs are always part of the plan, but coming to peace with the knowledge I only have time for a few more furry friends commitments. My current pals area a half Great Pyr and German Shepard cross; and a very old schitzu that adopted me.)
In our age cohort, we are out there. It is just more difficult to make connections. Most of the avalble dating pool is either already on a set path; or trying to rebuild and regroup from the complications in life that disrupt plans. My advise is to set a path that brings you joy and ignore all daily distractions that impinge on that joy. Find Peace in your own company; and validate yourself and mission. No one needs to approve or even understand what you are doing. Only you. We only get a few trips around the sun. Don't leave with regret.
Hi Brook,
I'm a little older than you are, 68 to be exact. Although living a simple homesteading life has kept me in pretty good shape..
I'm living on a homestead in Minnesota that has a large acreage and a "creek running through it".
The homestead has no electrical infrastructure and everything is done mostly in the old ways.
It's comfortable once you get it all figured out.
I thought that maybe since you are in Ontario that you might be above Minnesota although it looks like you're located probably further east above lake Erie.
Anyways if you'd like to discuss homesteading on various levels I would be glad to open up a discussion with you.
Sincerely, Rick
Hi Brook
Glad you have found premies and have interest in the home stead life. I got lucky to find a home stead it was started 45 year ago. I am upgrading building and amenity's you know outhouses are great but in the cold well not so fun LOL If you have any questions about the home stead lifestyle send a note. And trees yes i have fantastic old growth pine and hemlock around the place.
At age 55, I took early retirement from my corporate job and purchased property to start my homestead (see my post from 3 weeks ago in this forum), It is a great deal of work, particularly during the start-up years but very rewarding. With the better food, more activity and less stress; I feel better than I did 10-20 years ago.
Trying to improve my little piece of the Earth and be an educational/motivation example for others
