I'm Isla, relocated here from the Scottish Highlands still getting used to the different seasons and soil vibes!. I’ve been into permaculture for years helped on wee crofts and community gardens back home with things like no-dig beds, companion planting, willow weaving, herb spirals, and building simple structures from local materials. Miss the peat and heather, but excited to adapt those ideas to this climate.
I’ve got a small homestead setup now with some garden beds started, fruit bushes, a bit of woodland edge, and plans for more polycultures, maybe a small pond or cob bench someday. Nothing massive it’s more about slow, enjoyable progress.
I’m not after full-time workers or heavy labor crews. What I’m really hoping for is 1-2 kind, laid-back locals (especially older fellas with life experience and a patient approach) who fancy popping by occasionally for light, fun tasks and good conversation:
• Mulching, weeding, planting herbs/veggies together
• Sharing stories over a cup of tea (or dram if you’re that way inclined 😊) about your own projects, travels, or just how the world works
• Brainstorming ideas like best perennials for here, natural pest tricks, or simple builds
• No strict schedule or big commitments just whenever it suits, maybe a few hours here and there, in exchange for home cooked food, garden goodies, or just the company
It’s early days settling in, so it’d be nice to meet genuine folks who enjoy the slower pace, value earth care/people care, and don’t mind a bit of chatting while we work (or don’t work too hard!). If you’re semi-retired, handy in the garden, love permie philosophy, and open to friendly exchanges (maybe even swapping seeds or tips), feel free to reply here.
