I found this video some time ago. I had been going through my oldest posts and stumbled upon a thread titled "Rediscovering the Wigwam" and remembered this. The cattail mats are used for different purposes, one of them as a moveable roofing/wall material for native houses.

It looks like they're using orange nylon baling twine, which seems like a curious choice.

Yes--one thing at a time maybe? But I certainly would prefer well made cordage.

Perhaps they're using nylon for the rot resistance, in which case a waxed or tarred cord might work. The baling twine is probably far stronger than needed for the mat.
