Preparing for my Long weekend, I raise a cool glass hibiscus/mint iced tea, towards "all, ya-all's."  Please Have a safe & relaxing weekend, and do please share with us your favorite summertime beverage. I use equal amounts (about 2 handfuls) of dried hibiscus & mint leaves crushed and put in cheese cloth then set in 5 gallon glass jug of water in the sunshine until right shade of brown. daughter like to add stevia to hers, cause she's so sweet.

Summer is a distant memory and far off dream at the moment, but I favour purchased lemon, lime and bitters with iced water.  Maybe soda water if I'm feeling fancy.   Somebody may be able to contribute a recipe for the L-L&B - watch this space.

Summer is also very far away down here in Brazil today, but thinking of summer beverages: here are my two favorites that I make sure to make every year for nostalgia's sake (along with the usual mint and ice tea)....

--mugicha (toasted barley tea)- originally from Korea, where they'd throw a bit of roasted barley or grain into water so restaurant clients would know it had been boiled and was safe to drink. In Japan it's drunk hot and cold but when I first moved to Japan the region where I lived was big on mugicha as a summertime tradition. It comes in bags but you can also just roast some barley and then brew a weak tea with it. Korean versions also use corn, job's tears and other grains.

--shiso tea - another traditional Japanese summer drink. Boil up a good volume of purple shiso (perilla) in a large pot of water. Let cool and strain out. Add some citric acid (or lemon juice) until the tea changes from a muddy color to crazy neon magenta! Then sweeten to taste and serve cold. I grow shiso specifically for this!! The taste is hard to describe but so much more interesting than a 'normal' lemonade.
