Some folks organize big bicycle rides to school once a week. There is a published route with stops at established times. The students arrive fresh and ready for the day.

They do this in Portland sometimes for kids/families for school, and I think they're trying to figure out how to organize for adults commuting to work but as far as I know that idea hasn't been as successful/popular since there's not a clear corrilation between one's neighbourhood that they live and one's place of employment.
