We have been hit with several days of 100 F weather.   I am sure other areas must be experiencing similar.  I am amazed at how much water my pigs and goats are going through. I am checking their water every 3 hours …normal is 2x a day.  Anyway, just a reminder to be sure to make sure water is available.

Water is key, but so is shade! I have some salvaged Market Umbrellas. I pound a piece of rebar part way into the ground and slide the tube that holds the umbrella up over the rebar - sometimes there's a piece of plastic blocking the bottom but they're usually easy enough to remove. With pigs, you might have to hammer it in just outside their fence so they don't push it over.

One of our duck pens was at risk this summer, and I did this, and I'd regularly see a group of ducks relaxing in the shade it created. Yes, they were smart enough to move when the shade moved!

That kind of heat is a danger when folks are not used to it.

Here in Texas, we have had weeks of that.  And our A/c went out.

We were able to keep the house at 80`F until we could get another one.  The problem was we needed someone big and strong to get the thing out of the wall.

The new A/C looks so nice on the wall.

Try to keep cool and keep those piggies in water ...

Jay, good point about the shade. All my livestock area have shade, so I take it as normal.  But other homesteads may not be so blessed with trees.

But why do you wear your googles indoors? While holding this tiny ad?
