Cream of Tartar.  I have read that cream of tartar is a by-product of making wine.  Has anyone tried to save some from the wine making process?

Sherri, yes! It starts with this post earlier in the thread, where Lauren experimented with recovered cream of tartar. If you do your own experiments, we'd be interested in those too.

It is my understanding that baking powder is the first time that dried acid and base were mixed together, so they activate when liquid is added.  That is cream of tartar and baking soda.
