I've heard of barrels being used like that in the library RMH, but don't remember details on that build either. I think the library has a longer run leading to the barrels?
No, you didn't miss it. It was a tricky part of the build as the barrels kept rolling and the chimney kept falling apart. I ended up screwing all the pieces of chimney together just so I could get them to hold consistently while I manipulated the barrels how I wanted them. It took a few people to help me hold it all while I worked. Yes, the chimney cleanout connects to another stovepipe stack, which goes almost 2 feet into the barrels, forcing air to be much colder before it goes out the chimney. I hear that, once the cob dries, the bench will retain the hot air's heat better.
