Listen , Listen deeply to the spirited exchange between the Two Brothers, and your mind almost immediately expands beyond a knee jerk reaction to the
Political incorrectness of the tappet bros.

Much like a deep rooted desire to suspend disbelief while watching "Roadrunner Cartoons'' you quickly accept the close family manner of these two brothers
with birth dates 15 years apart !

Listening to an exchange between the bros as they listen to puzzled car owners who shout, squeal, and grunt, moan and utter sounds normally beyond the
Ken of normal tongues and ears to describe the range of Symptoms and Ailments of the American Automobile regardless of their world place of
manufacture, and you quickly warm to the theory and art of the Science of Auto Maintenance, and Repair as practiced at least within the confines of their
own possibly commercial enterprise located in the suburbs of Boston Mass.

This is a place where Automobiles and their drivers are respected as as single unit creating a combined life force capable of moving a multi-ton'd vehicle
down the road as a prime mover of people, families and dreams, mostly without any distinction of their separate and distinct realities !

A nationally syndicated program since 1987 with as many detractors as boosters, the seeming pandering to goal of bigger and better is best was over-
shadowed by a love for old cars and the young adults who were forced by necessity to adopt them, they also embraced Green Sponcers including a New
England based insurance company who offered a Dollars foe miles discount for policy holders who road a Bicycle !

It is with deep personal sadness I Report the death of the older brother, Tom MAGLIOZZI !

While failing in many areas of being Permaculturally aware Tom was certainly Green ! R.I.P. Tom Magiozzi, one can only hope that somehow the ' Car Talk'
forum will survive this tragic loss, and the NPR program will move forward with much continued success ! Big AL !

Yes, I will miss him, a dear sweet gentle man with a big heart and an equally big laugh

If you're listening from wherever you went, thanks for sharing

I liked how he'd go on a long tangent and then bring it back to the question at hand. A rhetorical bulldozer.

I have lived south and southwest of the Mason-Dixon line for 43 years . However,I lived just a few miles from Click and Clack until I was 12. So, not only did I enjoy many a Saturday of entertaining CarTalk but their accents reminded me of Family reunions. Tom was the butt of Rays jokes so much - but I always thought he was the smartest.

I have an old truck that sits in my driveway waiting for the day when the radio stops working. Despite broken brakes, a broken axle and multiple animal and insect nests, it has served me well as a radio while working on outdoor projects. It cranks but won't start but I've faithfully charged the battery on a Friday night so I could install it in the truck on Saturday morning to listen to Tommy and Ray go on about other people's busted cars (and lives). Tomorrow morning I've got a little work to do out on the walkway. I'm going to bring in the battery tonight, charge it up, install it tomorrow morning and listen to Car Talk as they pay tribute to Tommy. When the show is over, I'm going to turn off the radio, disconnect the battery and call the vehicle donation line to donate the truck.

Thanks Tommy for the laughs and all the life's lessons.

Craig : What a great story. NPR has a Guest Book for Tom . Your story would look great there. I mean "they-ah".

The laughs and lessons have been worth it and then some. I'll be glad to know that the truck will serve a good cause and I'll be able to tune in next week for more of the Best of" Car Talk. I'll be forced to use the ipod but that's ok.
The tribute was nice and I was laughing all the way... except for the tears. The world could use more wise people like Tommy. Down to Earth, light hearted, joyful and spontaneous. A philosopher in his own right and probably a really nice guy.
Rest in Peace Tommy

Today the truck went off to donation land. Kinda sad to see it go but happy that it's left me with some great memories. I case anyone cares, donating to the car talk thing was really really easy. Literally took me 15 minutes total.
