having some problems today.. I just want to zip a folder that has like 18 mp3 files in it and when I do, it includes a folder _MACOSX apart from the folder I was trying to zip, and then in the folder I was trying to zip, there hides .DS_Store.. I don't want that. I just want my mp3 files in one folder! That's it!

Can someone please help?

If you are familiar with the utility program Terminal, you can do it this way

These instructions seem a little better written

Yeah, see the thing is is I already tried that and although I am not super familiar with terminal, I did exactly what that told me to, and when I typed in cd [myfilesname] it says "no such file or directory" which is a LIE. Haha I mean I know the folder is on my computer, so I just don't know why it isn't finding it.

ah yes, finding the file in the directory... try [ur=http://lifehacker.com/eight-terminal-utilities-every-os-x-command-line-user-s-1593793109l]mdfind[/url]

capitalization and spaces count. Sorry.

Okay so I tried mdfind and it found the folder, but now I don't really know what to do. It found it and listed it and then listed all of the contents in it below it. So then I tried the thing from the first article you sent me.

zip -r bar.zip bar -x "*.DS_Store"

But that just came up with a bunch of warning signs like this

"zip warning: name not matched: Mass"

Ugh.. Do you know what I am doing wrong?

I just found this: http://www.switchingtomac.com/tutorials/general-software/create-zip-files-without-any-mac-specific-extras-inside/

I tried it and just need to send it to someone who doesn't have a mac to see if it worked!

+1 for persistence.

Sorry, I'd gladly receive your file but all our computers are Macs. Geeky, I know. But yay you go girl.

Dont use select all but instead individually select each file (CTRL + click on windows) then hit send to zip file/archive that normally leaves out all the hidden files.

Good job on finding a solution, did you find someone who uses a non-Mac PC to test it with? Hopefully it worked. If not you could send it my way. I'm in foreign lands and bored for the weekend.
