Probably one of the most challenging climates, Geoff Lawton visits a small acreage in the Nevada high country near Reno where the owner, Neil Bertrando, has created a Permaculture horse friendly paradise in three years. Its High, its Cold, Its Dry and its Windy. See how Neil uses hardy natives as nurse plants to grow his food forest. He also cycles nutrients from his horses and roadside weeds through his slow compost bins made of straw bales. For water, he's disconnected from municipal water and is relying on well water and road runoff to irrigate.

High, dry, cold and WINDY. Sounds like Wyoming. I wonder how many acres he has. Sometimes doing 40, alone, while working a full time job and caring for 2 toddlers, is just too much. Bit overwhelming.

I am somewhat of a luddite, wasn't making a distinction between their registering request and logging in. So, I'll take the blame for my misunderstanding.

Does anyone know if we have to register each time to see GL's videos? I've registered several times and even get the emails, but when I click the "Watch video now" from within the email they sent me, I don't get the video, but the webpage with all the great comments for GL and a place to register again. This can't be the normal process, so I must be doing something wrong ... but I'm getting the emails so I know they have me in their database.

I don't think I'm that much of a Luddite, but help would be appreciated.

Yeah - I get that same thing. You just have to sign in with your login info to the site. I don't think there's any way of keeping yourself logged in. I *will* email him about it though because, like you, I find it a bit confusing. I have a feeling it's a limitation of the software he's using.

I only watch his videos every few months. I use a 10 minute email to sign up, and at the confirmation link you should be able to access the videos. I usually bookmark one of the video pages after that and watch a video or two every day. That means about 24 hours between visits, which maintains the login. After seeing the videos and taking notes or screenshots of the plans he draws, I just stop visiting and sign up again in later months when he has new videos up.

I also find it not confusing but a bit non standard. When I'm logged out I just reenter my e-mail in the form and it takes me straight to the videos.

What Jeff actually says in the intro is "I'm up high in the Rocky Mountains near Nevada." He can't mean very near I guess, since the only Nevada-adjacent states with Rocky Mountains are Idaho and Utah, and in both cases the Rockies are in the east of those states.

Yeah - I think that was a mis-speak on Geoff's part.

He's definitely at Neil's property which is outside Reno, Nevada.

i plan on using the method in this video as a way to compost the cow manure we collect from the dairy cow(s)

im also in a high (5300), dry (12in rainfall) cold (-18F in Feb) and windy (mouth of a LARGE valley) area

i wish there were most examples in these types of climates.

Awesome, good to know. As much as Geoff travels, I suppose he can be forgiven for saying "Rockies" instead of "Sierra Nevadas", right?
