I have 160 acre off-grid REMOTE paradise on the SW Oregon coast. I have lived there for a couple of years now myself and am continuing to slowly develop the homestead. It is mostly a forest/timber property, not a farm or market garden (too steep and too remote from potential markets.) The south facing, terraced garden area is about 5,000 square feet of growing area, slowly being put into production as able to manage. About an acre orchard area with young fruittrees and bushes is still being reclaimed from scrub trees and bushes, and new plantings. The blueberries were loaded this year. The first pears were harvested as well. There is also a large greenhouse where subtropicals and tropicals are growing, as well, as herbs. A propane shower, compostingouthouse, solar battery charging station, and other infrastructure is developing and provides constant need for maintenance and iteration. I also have a duck flock for eggs. I've just increased the population with new stock and hope to even, possibly, have a few meat birds hatched out next year/season.
I live in an 8'x12' shed/micro-cabin. There is also an 8'x16' micro-cabin that I hope can be used by some 'help.' This is an opportunity to come and experience homesteading life. I've had a few caretakers in the recent past and have learned a bit. Lots of privacy, but I need help. This is an opportunity for someone (a couple? or young family) who would like to try the homesteading/backwoods life. There is cellphone service, so if someone came with a remote work arrangement for income, they could get internet arranged through cell data (which is what I do.) It is a lot to keep on top of, and I need to do some travel for my job (so I can continue to invest in the property and get it paid off; and I do enjoy my work, particularly when I get to come home to the wilderness life.) I can provide lots more information if someone is interested. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Put 'caretaker' or 'homestead' in the subject line so I can find your email.
It is very rainy in the winter, but a fairly mild climate. Year round gardening (I've learned a lot), fun foraging, borders National Forest, tons of privacy, LOTS to do and learn about in terms of providing your own water, energy, garden, orchard, poultry, manage time and attitude, etc. This is a homestead, not a farm or market garden. This is a forest property, not a nice flat, cleared grassland. This is my home; so can't be someone who has absolutely no interest in being polite and neighborly. Reliable, good communicator, understands and wants to make hay while the sun shines, optimistic, self-reliant, attentive to details, self-motivated, adventurous . . . . I don't have time or energy to take care of other people. (now I've rambled)
Charity.....My wife and I have been creating homesteads and growing food for most of our lives. I am from the pacific northwest, having homesteaded in some of the most Wild, beautiful areas of Oregon & Northern California. We grow about 90% of what we eat. We have a small(6) Dairy Goat herd and some chickens.... We make Yogurt, Kefir and various types of hard and soft cheeses. We eat the male goats, born each year... and we store about 2,000 lbs. of root crops in our root cellar, for ourselves and the goats. I am a Natural builder, using cob, straw bale, stone, rough cut lumber, hand split shakes and natural peeled poles..... building barns, greenhouses, tree houses, underground earth lodges, hand hewn log cabins, stone houses and beautiful Hobbit houses and also work on solar and micro hydro systems...... and can fix and repair just about anything needed on a homestead....... My wife is also a homeopathic practitioner. We Both Love Living the Simple Natural Lifestyle... living Gently on the Earth... while Enhancing and nurturing The Web if Life. WE ARE LOOKING FOR...... A LOOOOONG TERM HOME. We presently are fully using about 3 acres, for a large garden, fruit trees, goat pasture, barn, green house and our little, (400 sq.ft.) round straw bale/cob home here in Northern New Mexico....and the goats forage on another wild 5 or so acres. But we miss like minded/Hearted people.
So we were wondering if you would like permanent, long term HELP maintaining and creating, your land into a more self-sufficient homestead that supports all our needs living together there.... We are looking for easy going, accepting and loving folks to share caretaker-ship of a piece of Mother Earth with. We have lots of skills and talents, necessary to live off the Earth and with the Earth, requiring very little money... speaking of money... we have a steady life- long income so do not need to go off the land to bring in funds. We don't spend very much time chasing the dollar.... so we don't have a chunk of $$$ saved up to buy land..... so we are looking for FOLKS that WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THEIR LAND WITH US.. Long Term..... in the less soggy areas of the pacific northwest or southern BC . We would love to have a year round creek or river, and gravity feed water is so appreciated..... good Strong gravity fed Spring is always a huge Plus in any situation.
We have some questions about your situation there... How many inches of annual rainfall do you get there..? How far inland (miles) are you from the coast itself..? do you have the dry summer period of no rainfall from June to October..? Does your land have gravity fed water from a creek or strong spring..? Are you above the summer fog belt along the coast..? Can tomatoes ripen outdoors there..? melons..? What is the nearest town that would have a building supply/hardware store..? natural food or co-op store..? Can you drive into your land or is it foot access only..? We would love to see some photos of the land, your improvements and yourself........ Please contact us at.......... email@example.com ..... if you want some awesome, Loving Land partners, good friendly, Helpful neighbors, and Fellow lovers of the Earth.....we could be Your Brother and Sister in Love with Life.
Charity - we are in Josephine County, near you, and just wondering if you'd consider selling a portion of your parcel - maybe 40-80 acres, depending on exactly where you're located. Something "official" would be great, but if land division regulations are in the way, something "less official" might work too. Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. It would be cash-up-front deal - we're selling our place and looking to pay cash for a homestead. Thank you!
