I had a Mormon boss and talked to him about their preparations, he made a really good point that has stuck with me. He said that you prepare for a bad situation but that situation may not be world wide or even city wide, you might just be prepared for a personal or family issue. It struck me as profound that nowadays we prepare for the end of everything but we don't prepare for loosing a job, or feeding our families while we recover from major injury....it brings life into focus when you consider that you may need six months of preparations for a broken hip, shattered femur, or major infection.

I wouldn't consider myself a prepped or survivalist, but I did grow up with no running water or electricity, so I like to think I have a good leg up, as well as being in the 2nd largest old order Amish settlement in PA.

Yes , I thought this would be a sleeper! I did find that a Google search here in Permies returned 88 hits in 0.1 seconds !

It is also important to note that all of the G.E. Built Reactors in the U.S and the World ( Fuki-Shima !!! ) need outside power if they need to shutdown NOW

That is where the hydro dams come in. They supply the power to start the coal and gas plants up. And yes we are very vulnerable to solar flares! And hackers!
