Western PA Vagabond looking for Homesteading home (PA, WV, VA, MD, NY) Appalacians.

Wsup. wandering for about 5 years total. Spent most time focusing on art or returning home to family members. Original purpose of my voyage was to find a good community where i could live a simple life off the land and be productive. And I still haven't found the right place. Now I'm back in the area where I grew up, Pittsburgh PA. Waiting for the weather to turn nice before I put some time in travelling. I'm going to be jumping over to the appalacians and then dropping down through WV possibly going as far as NC. I'm hoping to find a community or home in the Mountains, or anywhere for that matter. Is there anyone out there with some land where I can camp and possibly raise up my own log cabin / home and help with community projects??? I'm very interested in construction and would like to make an elaborate house using stone and timber construction. By the way. regardless of responses I get or other avenues. I'll be completing camps hand built in the mountains as I go and documenting my progress online. So stay tuned for that.

You always hated me, for what I don't know.....

Would you consider Northern Maine ? I have an acre or two that you can work on in exchange for helping me. Work the acreage properly and in short order you could be making money. This is an excellent area to live. Almost all the people are just plain good. There are jobs available as well. We could build you a Cabin on skids. When you put together about $ 3000.00, I know of many in the area that will finance you. Especially if they can see the work you have already completed. Load the cabin on a truck then move to your own place. You will also have the outbuildings you will need to be up and in operation. Things you will need like an outhouse, woodshed on skids, smoker on skids, etc.. I think you get the idea.

A thanks to everyone who has responded so far. I have let this topic slip for a little. While. An updae on me : no longer in western PA, now in EASTERN PA, basing out of lancaster for now. Still on the hunt for this opportunity. To the reply about maine. Yes i would consider that, however the trip that far north of here seems unlikely. btw i do have a good drivers license but i do not have a car. Also i recieved an email personally from someone who is in southern virginia with a similar situation, lots of land to live on and needing volunteers. I am much more likely to head south because of easier seasons and also making destinations such as asheville nc more viable. For now i have gotten as far as Lancaster, PA which puts me somewhat closer to the southern freight lines too. Please come at me with more ideas thank you very much!
