I have a house in the laurentiens which I want to heat with a rocket stove mass heater:
I've seen videos where people make their own custom rocket stoves but I don't have any welding equipment
and living in laurentiens there is no clay to be found so what material can I use for the mass?
Is there anyone in Quebec who knows about rocket stoves?  Help!

i live in ontario next door.  i used firebriks for the core and cinder blocks + paver bricks for the mass...

you can do anything you put your mind to.  i would not reccommend steel or welding in the core / flame path

youre welcome to check out my rocket stoves playlist on youtube feturing 60 videos of my own experiments, designs, and hybrid builds.

Thanks for the info John: do you make or sell rocket stoves?  My place is about 30 miles from the Hawkesbury bridge.

There is no need whatever for welding in building a rocket mass heater. Using metal in the combustion zone (like many many youtube videos) is a very bad idea, as it will fail soon as the hot corrosive atmosphere attacks the metal. Metal downstream where it is cooler is fine.

i make my own expeimental hybrids.  you can buy some firebrick lined metal compact stoves online, but do some research before buying or building.  books & dvds are available here on permies
