Recently I discovered an extremely great opportunity for a natural building resource and thought I would share as well as allow others to contribute their finds and where others might find similar things.

I discovered that my local breweries have huge numbers of specialty malt bags that get discarded and are willing to part with them for pennies or for free. In my rural montana town I have two breweries and one sells them to me for 5 cents each and the other gives them to me for free. These are the huge bags that kaki hunter and donald kiffmeyer refer to as the "way too big bags" in their earthbag building book. You could easily fit 150lbs of material into these. They also have this plastic lining that tears right out and can be repurposed for garbage bags or a poncho.

1) what goodies have you found?
2) where can others find them?

Not just pallets ,but pallets with long prices of strong lumber can be found behind medical supply centers, the kind of places that sell and install chair lifts, elevstors, ramps, etc.

Almost anything can be found on craigslist ! I have gotten pallets, piping, hose, mulch, wood, glass, tools, seeds, and more, mostly free or very cheap.

Around here, certain parks leave wood chips for the taking, and if your not squeamish, cemeteries have to bury people and then figure out what to do with that clean fill dirt and rocks. Granite counter top places usually have broken pieces and window sales have old windows (beware of lead). Some home improvement stores have a rack of garbage lumber. People's bundled yard waste often include sticks big enough for use in a rmh, if not bigger.
