Hi Everyone! My name is James, I’m 22 years old and I just started moved to rural Lewis County (near Salkum) last winter. I'm new to this particular part of Washington and I'd like to make friends. I have limited transportation right now (I’m still getting my driver’s license) but I can meet people in Chehalis or Centralia or help pay for gas. I live here with two housemates (my partner Jacob and my friend Miranda) and we’d all love to meet people around here. I’m a little shy and probably on the spectrum too, just so you know. I moved to Centralia in October 2017. I was a member of the Permies FB group until I quit FB (Cambridge Analytica was the straw). I lost a local virtual community. Sadness.

Anyway, yeah. I'm socially awkward, and I'm not sure I'm going to post this, but I'm going to hit. the. submit. button. now.

Apologies for not calling yet. I have no good reason, although it seems like I should provide one given your kind offer, Laura. I plan to reach out. When I will is up in the air. I was raised to feel guilty about almost everything, and I'm trying to get over that. So, I feel guilty about not calling or texting, but I will.

Hello everyone! We just bought a piece of land outside of Centralia and plan to move in the Summer. We are building a house/bed and breakfast with natural building methods surrounded by a forest garden. We are moving to the area with my in-laws to be closer to my wife's siblings and their families. We currently live in Pennsylvania so we don't know anyone else in the area but are excited to make new friends! Laura do you mind if I contact you by cell too?

Hi, Austin!

I'm originally from Philly! Is York really the first capitol of the US? ;)

Today I was outside trying to shoo away a bald eagle. Why? I have no idea. If they're going to shop in my yard, there's not much I can do about it. The ducks tilt their heads and head under the trees or next to my house. They're smarter than I thought.

With respect to making in-person friends, I'll get my act together eventually.

Sure! I’m in the process of purchasing my new 2 acre property in rose valley. Should be moving in at the end of February.

I know I am late to the party but just wanted to let people know that I too am new in Lewis County (Mossyrock). I had some good conversations with James that I want to expand to other people.

We are not fully settled in yet - lots of repairs needed for the shed, barn and a kind of greenhouse that were here already.

We did plant a lot of fruit trees and only mulberries died (leaves eaten by slugs) - so if anyone has any ideas or big mulberry trees, please help.

Also Laura I would really like to see a food forest in this area.

We had a couple of small successes this spring: we made pine buds syrup (great for respiratory infections) and elderflower syrup (antiviral).
Other projects for this summer: treehouse (most important!) and getting everything ready for chickens and ducks (and bees if possible).
