I arrived at Basecamp around 3 this afternoon.
Paul showed us how to divide rhubarb. He sharpened a shovel for the occasion and it sliced right through. We mulched with compost wherever we planted and divided.
There wasn't much time until The weekly community feast so Fred decided to make seed balls. We coated oats and two varieties of wheat that he bought from Joseph Lofthouse.
Thankful to be with family this weekend and grabbing a few things that they held for me while being away this winter.

Day 66
Back in the groove and moving forward. We started the morning on Fred's plot transplanting Iris, Rhubarb and Crocus. We forgot to water them in.
We hiked up the creek planting cottonwoods and willows, Ate lunch by the smooth sounds of running water.
We finished the day working on the willow warehouse, It is now standing straight and repaired. Just needs a few finishing touches and we're all set for storage.

Day 67
Started the day on the tractor for road maintanence at the base of the hill to the willow bank and outdoor showers by the shop. Rode along to Freds plot to water in the plants we transplanted yesterday. We followed with throwing seed balls of wheat and oats in their designated spots. Fred and I measured out the proper space for the amount sowed and made a perimeter with sticks lying around. Mulched the oats with straw and a little to the wheat plot for what we had left over.
We hauled three loads of willow candy bins with ranger Doug and finished the repair on the warehouse.
Finished the day collecting mulch for Fred's plot and spread some of that over the wheat.

After lunch Coco and I drove up to ant village to clean up a plot or two.
A solid spring day.

Day69
Transplanted a couple of Mulberry trees I bought last summer. they were under cover for the winter but not totally enclosed from the elements so we'll have to keep an eye on them while they adjust to their new home.
Drove into Missoula for a workshop that involved music and dance. I watched a Banjo class and joined in for shape note singing and yodeling. Super fun, I should have brought my guitar. I'll be in a good spot to practice yodeling while working on the plot.

Day 70
Winter wasn't ready to say goodbye this morning. The snow melted fairly quick so it didn't slow me down none. There was plenty to do besides planting so in a way it led me to more productive projects on the ant plot.
Cleaned the inside of the wofati. Organized what stays and what goes around the plot, well the majority of it at least. Took frequent breaks walking around observing the landscape, fence for repairs, where water can go, the position of the sun etc....
So many possibilities, excited to to have a spot to experiment.

Day 71
Happy Monday!
Fred and I moved trailers around and dropped off rocket mass heater equipment to the boneyard up at the lab. We drove to his plot and talked a little about his plans before working on the fence. He then explained and demonstrated peeling logs with a bark spud. I peeled for a few minutes and Coco was ready to meet at Ant Village to clean up a few plots.
We finished the trash collecting phase and will be starting the salvage and recycle phase Wednesday or Thursday.
There were a few minutes to spare when I drove back to Fred's plot, so I peeled for the meantime.

Day 72
Beautidul spring day. Insane that from dawn to noon there was a near 40 degree difference in temperature.
Fred and I worked on the berm shed then dropped the trailer load that Coco and I filled to the dump. After lunch we watered Rhubarb, Cottonwoods and Willows that we recently transplanted. We finished the day planting Vetch, Alfalfa and Clover around basecamp.

Day 73
Happy May day everyone. It's the first of the month so it's time to check the batteries. We have the dump trailer on the charger, a buggie, tractor, as well as the battery from Toots the van. Fred noticed a clicking noise in sync with the power for the electric fence around the bee hut and found some wires shorting.
Before and after that we worked on the berm shed. The last pole we installed was the first out of the corner. I have a feeling this project is on to a faster pace for the stick installing phase.

Day 74
Worked on Fred's plot for the day. I limbed and peeled trees while Fred dug out the berm fence. I watered Iris that we transplanted, Fred watered Rhubarb. We collected water from the creek below on it's last trickle to say goodbye for the year.
After lunch we loaded up Doug with brush to layer on the berm for the next load of dirt to pile on.
