We're new here

Hello Permies,
My name is Melissa. My partner and I are just beginning a Permaculture, And food forest project in Minas, Uruguay. We are nearly brand new to all of this, certainly amateurs, but we aim to be professionals.  It is our intention to build community with those around us and also to grow this wider and grander through time.  We will invite others to come and participate in order to learn and grow for themselves and to spread seeds of thought and heart and spirit through them as well. We will be building superadobe domes in the spring, much like these which we helped a friend to build as intercambio.
Very soon we will begin to build the Earth in preparation for planting in the spring. We do have some trees that we can put in before spring as well..
We will begin observing for ourselves how the water flows and how the wind blows.
We are blessed with beautiful neighbors around us, who have already been observing this place and are able to share some insights.

Hey those are great looking pictures. I'm unfamiliar with these dome houses. Does anyone have any resources where I could read up on the purpose and construction of the dome houses? I haven't seen them before and don't know the advantages of this over a traditional build, besides of course the airflow from those fan units

Thanks folks. These are not our domes, but some we've built with a friend in the area, on his land. The round openings are not fan units, but windows. :) The are some fantastic books and resources about the benefits of building superadobe domes and the dome shape generally. As a shape the, the 'catenary curve' has tremendous integrity and strength. The idea of this type of construction, which Nader Kahlili revived as superadobe, is that it is meant to be accessible to most/all people, being inexpensive and somewhat simple. This particular construction is somewhat complex and maybe even a bit fancy, but perhaps you can imagine a simple, single, dome, composed mainly of material from the ground on site..... The windows do not have to be made from concrete rings, but are often left as openings by using removable wooden forms..
