So I'm planning a kickstarter for a book I've written. My theory is that the kickstarter would be an opportunity to pre-sell the books before I go to the printer.
These are the questions I imagine people want to know. Am I right? What am I missing?
Who am I and why do I have the audacity to write a book on this topic?
What's the book about anyway?
What do I need the money for? What am I going to spend it on?
Do I have a realistic idea of the money I need?
How close am I to being finished? When can we expect our rewards?
What could go wrong?
What are the rewards for donating money to this project?

I agree.
Now just "toss together" an awesome video and some stellar graphics and you are ready to go!
It doesn't have to be fit for the ad stream during the Superbowl, but it does need to be polished up to focus primarily on the project and you. I bet you might even know some people with reliable opinions outside of your closest friends and family who'd be interested in helping.
i think the video is supposed to start with your name: "I am just a person who is trying to start a business" and then you need to end with why you need kickstarter "printing a lot of books is expensive, so if you buy the books now ..."
When it is used for evil, then watch out! When it is used for good, then things are much nicer. Like this tiny ad:
