I’m attempting to save cucumber seeds for the first time. I scooped the seeds out of over ripe cukes and added water 2-3 days ago. They got really sticky. I rinsed and drained today. Does stinky mean they’ve spoiled? How soon can I do a germination test? Do they need to age a while first?
They’re Chicago Pickling, and probably the best I’ve grown. They resisted getting bitter in the heat and drought and tasted great.
Ken: Good job, and good technique. Test them whenever you like...
If the gel coat has detached from the seed, then I consider them to be finished fermenting, whether that happens in a few days, or a few weeks. In hot weather, it's closer to a couple days, in cold weather, it might take weeks.
