Ok, here is my mock up of the design. So you know I'm using a reverse version of the of the design from page 64 in the RMH builder's guide and is a 6 inch pipe.
Don't ask why it changed the pics to side ways. I didn't do it.

Thanks for the offer. I don't think we will be getting to far for a few weeks. Still looking for a 55 gallon drum and we have to order a few parts.

The hunting shack in stevensville has a ton of barrels, also axemen carries them but they cost $25-30. They also have the clamps though too which is great for inspecting your rmh down the road. I've snagged a few from the bitterroot disposal transfer station in victor as well.

Thanks for the info, did some searching and just got one from axmen. Anyway here are some new pics.

Ok this is just a mock up with everything. Going to start working on it this weekend. Can't wait either.
I think my real work will be building the manifold. Everything else went quick and smooth. I burned the
barrel and scraped off any thing I could and was blue. Not any more.

Hi Jerry; Good luck with your build! It's very exciting doing your first RMH!
I know your photos are mock ups. When you start building for real , may I suggest putting 4" of straw filled cob on the ground and build your core and mass on them. Want that heat rising in your green house not helping to heat the earth.
Keep us posted and include lots of pictures!

I wish we could use cob but having an aquaponics greenhouse, the cob just holds to much moisture. It's going to have to be a rock/shell type build. So Friday night I got the core built before calling it a night. I will have more pics Yahoo starts to work again.

Just a quick question on my firebox. I'm using 6 inch pipe through out the system. Will the 7 inch fire box be an issue?

Hi Jerry;
In short , YES it does matter. Your core should be the same as your ducting. It is OK to go slightly smaller, but larger is most likely to cause smoke back issues.

As it is your core unit at least it is easily accessible to be rebuilt if it is a problem.

Give it a try and see what happens.

Jerry, You may want to consider stacking the red bricks that support your barrel in a running bond - where the bricks are offset with each row. This makes them more tied together as one unit, not relying so much on the mortar/cob to do most of the work which could lead to stress cracks that never seem to go away no matter how many times you fix them.

I think this was Erica Wisners work.....

Sorry for lack of post. Just had surgery. Anyway thanks Thomas for the info. I made the inside smaller and it's working a lot better since we just added another 10 feet. I'll get some pics up this weekend with some details.

Well it's been a year since we built our system. It had it's pro and cons and learning curve with the greenhouse. So this winter we shorten our pipes by five feet each line and it made a world of difference.
Higher temps and better burns Here are some pics from tonight. Just noticed that the reader didn't show the greenhouse temp but was at 47 degrees inside with the rocket mass heater and it was 5 degrees
outside. So not bad still need to work on better insulation.
