Biography
A Christian & devoted Patriot, wife, soap maker, herbalist, formerly a homeschooler, baker, truck driver, and more. I was born in the South, but actually grew up around the Great Lakes. Both of my childhood families had big, lush gardens,& preserved everything they could for the winter. I carried that into my own life. But, change happens and for over a decade, it just wasn't an option. Now, retired in the Ozarks, on 29 heavily wooded acres of mostly ravines, our best crops are nearly inaccessible wild blackberries, rocks, wild herbs, and ticks. We're utilizing our burgeoning small-livestock collection, straw bales, raised beds, and containers to build soil, and a better, healthier life for ourselves and our beloved critters, who provide us with eggs, meat, milk, fiber, honey, beeswax, fertilizer, tick control, brush control, 'lawn' mowing, loads of entertainment, and even help turn the compost.

I never used to, but then found out about contaminants and started. Then, I decided I like the texture of the final product better, if washed first. So, I wash/rinse all white rice until the water runs clear, I only a quick rinse to brown rice on the rare occasions we use it. Similarly, wild rice only gets a quick rinse.

My good ones are mia. I know they're here, but I've misplaced them. Another pair we have that are decent (other than their plastic handles🙄) are Oster. Personally, I would also most likely prefer the Japanese ones.

Wow!

Can pastels really do this?  I'm more used to courtroom sketches.  And it's  her second piece.

Observation.  Within each layer, she places the colours next to eachtoher rather than overlapping. I wonder if that's why her colours are so clear.

Gorgeous! And yup - they can do this, and side by side makes a LOT of sense, to allow blending/ shading, but avoid muddiness - I never thought to try that...

Tonight it will be the last couple pieces of lasagna from my son's visit. They went home an hour and a half ago, and we need to get back on our keto plan, tomorrow.

Eating on the Wild Side by Jo Robinson. It's worth the read, the most useful intro I've ever read. I'm learning some things.

Even my gardening is creative.

Yes!! Even my mending is creative - and that's where my primary creative energy is going, right now - creatively mending clothing I love and even dog toys. Some of my mending is visible & fun, some not visible and more functional - but all of it exercises my brain and creative vent. In between, I've been painting, baking, and getting ready to receive the piano in being gifted. So, I'm preparing to relearn how to play, and self-accompany my singing.

I made molasses cookies. We still have family coming in on Monday, to visit for almost a week. I might make more of those, plus buttermilk drops, fudge, & egg nog.

My usual criteria are:
Will we eat it?
Do we want to try it?
Is it too expensive to buy?
Will it grow in a container?
How difficult is it to grow?
How difficult is it to process for storage?
Preference is also given to perennials over annuals, but I don't reject all annuals, by any means.
