You've already read "All about SkIP, PEP, Badges, BBs and More!" and now you're ready to do your first Badge Bit (BB).
Welcome to SkIP!

Step
0

Sign up for a Permies Account

You'll be posting to the forums, so you'll need to be signed in, too.
Need Help Signing Up?

Step
1

Choose a Sand Level Badge Bit (BB)

There are 22 Badges to choose from.
As an example, we'll look at Roundwood Woodworking, and the Badge Bit (BB) to Make a Club Style Mallet with hand tools
*You can do a Straw level BB if you want but they're generally harder

Step
2

Read the Badge Bit (BB) Description and Requirements

Make sure to read the section that says, "To get certified for this BB, post..."
All Badge Bits require posting pictures. I like knowing which pictures I need before I start.
The "Club Style Mallet" BB requires:

To get certified for this BB, post three pics.
  - Your chunk of wood that you are starting with (about 16 inches long and 4 inches in diameter)
  - progress about half way through, with the hand tools you have decided to use for this
  - final product held in your hand showing that your thumb and first finger can touch (any fatter than that and your hand will get very tired using it)

Step
3

Do the thing, and take the pictures

In this case, carve that mallet. Here are a few examples:

I often wish I'd taken way more pictures than I actually did, and sometimes don't quite get the pictures I actually need. More and clearer pictures help make certifying the BB easier on the volunteers who do the certifying.

Step
4

Reply to the BB thread, with a forum post including the required words and pictures

Some BB's need you to describe something. Others just need the pictures. Make sure to post everything that is required.

I find it's often helpful to add extra info to help make it a "slam dunk" to a BB certifier that I've clearly done what's needed for the BB.

Step
5

Enjoy the thing you've just made!

That's a real nice mallet. A SkIP Certifier will be along shortly to review your BB.

If the certifier replies back with suggestions on how to fix it (and we've all had that happen!), fix the thing, and either edit your existing post or make a new post!

When your BB is certified, the bottom of your post will look like this:

If this is your first BB in this aspect, you'll also receive a shiny new Air Badge in your signature!
The Roundwood Woodworking Air Badge Looks like this:

If folks are real busy, it may take a day. If it hasn't been certified in 24 hours, click the button on your post saying something like, "Is my BB ready to be certified?" We're all volunteers, so thanks in advance for your understanding.

Step
6

Do another BB!

There's loads to choose from.
At a loss for which one to do next?
Take a look at what people think are the easiest BB's.

Happy SkIPping!

This guy is skipping without a rope. At least, that's what this tiny ad said:
