This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Textiles.

For this BB, you will sew the handles back onto a cloth shopping bag (or another cloth bag), reinforcing as necessary.

Machine Minute: Reinforced Bag Handles

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- sew the handles back onto a cloth bag
- reinforce the stress points of the handle
- natural materials only (including the original bag)

To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pictures or a video (less than two minutes):
 - your cloth before the repair
 - doing the repair
 - your cloth bag after the repair

My friend really wanted the handles repaired on this old cotton bag she bought, however it was the top of the handle that was damaged rather than its attachment point.

So this picture shows the badly damaged handle and the old pair of jeans that I took apart for material to make a new handle. My friend wanted the handle to be a bit longer than the original, so I made it as long as the jeans allowed me to.

The jeans fabric is much stronger than the original, and I edge stitched both sides of the handle and cross-stitched the attachment point for strength as can be seen in the second picture.
Hopefully this counts even though it's new handles rather than reattaching the originals.

As I was bringing home the shopping the other day the handle burst off this bag! Fixed up now with a square of stitching around the base of the handle and diagonal stitches for reinforcement :)
