This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the
PEM curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the wood badge in
Dimensional Lumber Woodworking.
You may have installed finish trim on a staircase at the Straw level. What happens if the staircase isn't there in the first place? Let's build one!
Here's a gentleman showing us one way to do it:
Minimum requirements:
- Build a finished staircase
- Trim work and handrail is another BB
- As in nearly all Dimensional badge projects, no man-made wood products can be used
- At least 6 treads
- Meets generally accepted building codes
- Rise and run are consistent for all steps
- Final tread surface is wood, tile or a home made textile
- Protective finish is encouraged on the wood
- Due to extreme wear on stair treads, commercial finishes are permitted
Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
- The place where the stairs will go
- Midway through the construction process
- Finished staircase
