I'm just getting into fishing for the first time and am learning from scratch. I figure that while I learn, I should reach out and see what other folks do!

When I was a younger man, I learned to fish with family using a SpinCast reel. I didn't really know what I was doing except throwing the hook into the water and hoping.

Now that I am trying to actually LEARN how to fish, I've obtained a spinner reel to try my hand at fishing the freshwater bodies around my area. I'm exclusively freshwater fishing with a plan on focusing on panfish to start.

A spin reel is easiest to use. Some drawbacks, for example it easily gets snarled up inside and you have to untangle it. But the others also have this problem.
Also, lots of spin reels are really cheap and low quality so have all sorts of weird problems and break easily. Don't buy the cheapest one!
But for normal fresh water fishing for pan fish, I think it's the easiest to use and plenty good enough.

It used to be a lot bigger, but now it is a rather tiny ad:
