Summary

In two volumes of Returning Life to the Land, Samuel Lewis explains his agrarian life in 273 illustrated pages (~6x8 inches), largely -- but not completely, eschewing the written word.

Where to get it?

Volume 1: creating a subsistence farm
Volume 2: living and working on a subsistence farm

I give this book 9.2 out of 10 acorns!

I like the idea of these books, written in the style off a comic strip. And I appreciate it more when I hear video of the author explaining that he has beef with the written word because it was hard for him to pick up. But it turns out the truth is that I wish it had more exposition in text. Maybe not a lot, but there are times when I find myself squinting at the picture, trying to discern some detail and short paragraph would have helped me a great deal.

It's a quick read though I find myself scanning back through it and reviewing the images again and again. The work of this family is pretty inspirational, at least for me.

(My individual scores are: thesis 3; structure 4; import 5; rare 5; electric 4; easy 3; interesting 4; voice 5; support 3; organized 4; graphic 3; actionable 4; instructive 4; Permie 5; JNSQ 4)

If you'd like to add your own review, please have the first sentence be "I give this _______ X out of 10 acorns."
