January To-dos

What's on your to-do list around the homestead this month (aside from snuggling in by a fire with a steaming cup of something good)?

Usually wed be entering a mild dry season over here but La Niña is a thing and it appears wetness will remain at least til mid year so another big round of chopping and dropping pioneers to feed the soil is in order, they grow so fast! Oh, and no hot beverages for me :) more like a salpicón with lots of ice (which is our version a fruit punch.)

As much woodwork as I can get in. I've got handles to carve, logs to split, boxes to join, spoons to carve, etc. Sunny January afternoons are very nice outdoors here and my woodworking area is outdoors. I used to pine for a finished wood shop... but I made peace with the situation and now I enjoy seasonal work.

The woodshavings are also perfect mulch for my raised bed garden aisles, and after last summer I know the problem areas that need the thickest layer, so they're getting it. I'm slowly making my own deep mulch alleys which supposedly turn into good compost to shovel out for the garden beds themselves.

Also accounting, financial planning, taxes.

Repairing various things is always on my to-do list. Currently awaiting my attention are socks to be darned, shoji paper to be patched, floor tiles to be repaired, grout to be replaced.

Cleaning to-do includes deep cleaning the oven, toaster oven, bookshelves, and closets.

Probably some more things, but they're likely to get pushed to February or later.

Trying to finish my (not so) 'lazy bed'. The winter is mild (which means wet) but I'd really like to get it covered over so it can sit a while before the main spring seed sowing.
My indoor job is checking my seeds. I've got several new tree and shrub seeds which will need a bit of cold stratification so could do with starting pre-treatment. Sorting those out and getting them sown is high on my list.

Every morning I make a list of at least 10 items I want to accomplish.  If I achieve 3 of them, I consider myself successful.

As for Jan?   Clean out high tunnel.   Clean up garden.  Cut brush. Tile bathroom floor. Toss(donate) junk.
