Hi folks.

We are wanting to hook up our Champion generator (Model 100433) as a backup to automatically charge the batteries on our solar system.  We have a Magnum AGS-N, but dispite the sales claim that any generator with auto start capabilites can be used with this AGS, we are not having any luck finding a solution to wire them together.  I have contacted Magnum and they said that external relays would need to be used, but they have not yet been able to provide a solution as to what exactly is needed.

The Champion generator has a start/stop button (same button for starting and stopping) that needs to be pressed twice to start (0.5 to 2 seconds per push, with at least a 2 second interval between pushes), and pressed once to stop it (again a 0.5-2 second push). Pushing the start/stop button just completes a circuit and sends a 12V pulse to a controller which actually controls the starting and stopping of the generator.

Anyone have any ideas on the configuration of external relays required, or any other ideas for a solution?

Thanks!!

Hey Vince,   Not exactly what your looking for but perhaps this schematic could provide some insight into things until someone else chimes in.

There are other companies that make these. Atkinson likely has a module.

Thanks Folks,
Posts were very helpful.  I see two options to go forward with, so far.... 1) Contact Atkinson and see what they have, or 2) Swap the Champion Generator #100433 with a #46565 (Since I have access to one) and use the wiring diagram Gerry posted.

Gratitude!!

Vince Schultz: Welcome to Permies! Keep an eye on this thread, people sometimes respond for quite a while.
Always good to have people around who know solar, hope to stay to be part of it
