Chris's Boot camp experience

My name is Chris and I'll be posting my Boot camp experience at Wheaton Labs here. I arrived here 2/3/19 and am new to permaculture. Looking forward to developing edifing skills in this awesome lifestyle!

Here are some shots of my second day at Boot camp. I didn't know I would be making this thread so I'm just posting some of the few pics I took. I didn't expect to start acquiring round wood building experience this quickly, but we're already working on the couch patio at the shop.

Please read the instructions on any chain saw. That thing's not too far from your face and if it kicked up ...
Left arm should be straight and locked (for a right handed person)
Right hand very firm grip

This might require a different set up for what you're doing. Perhaps a vise mounted lower at about waste height. A full face shield isn't a bad idea.

Thanks for the advice John. I was trying to be careful with that awkward cut. And the Paul size vice mount didn't help much either. Haha

Indeed and for this kind of work you want a small chain saw with T-Handle including a carving bar, eye protection, noise protection as well as cut-resistant glows, clothing and so on. In addition you shouldn't use a petrol chainsaw inside, better an electric one.

I don't know about Chris' glasses, but my eye glass lenses are polycarbonate, which are quite good eye protection, even if not the wrap-around kind of safety glasses.

Ah, "shoulds" happened! I understand the desire to help and point out safety hazards, however, I think some photo angles really don't show the whole picture of what's going on and can make something look less safe than it is. (Or, admittedly, vice versa.)

Both Chris and Philip (Akhu) are super awesome so far and we'd reaaally like to be encouraging and supportive, while still having loads of good healthy learning and great conversations happening here.
