I have mostly been a background reader on the site, not engaging much in the discourse of daily permaculture posts, an admiration from a distance if you will, but the idea of embroidering with plant fibres really interested me, as did the prospect of growing my own clothing, and I wanted to ask the question of how to properly dry flax and if I would be able to get it thin enough ( without breakage ) to thread it through a needle and embroider with it?

I love the idea of embroidering with plant fibres!

I think just about any fibre would work so long as it's spun into a smooth yarn.  Maybe a three-ply yarn?

I made some embroidery thread with silk once, but the single (un-plyed) yarn got fuzzy quickly.  The plyed yarn stayed smooth and shiny.

Flax can be spun very thinly with practice.  Line linen generally makes a smoother thread.
